Rewards for Students in Elementary School

Your child in grades K through 5 is learning faster than ever before. Children are becoming more independent and learning to take responsibility for what they do. Encourage your children to keep doing their best in school and learning about the world around them. Completing the following education activities and earning Rewards will help your child do even better! Click on each Reward to learn more.

How to Get Your Elementary School Rewards

Families with children in public school in grades three through eight automatically receive Rewards if a child scores a level 3 or 4 or improves an ELA or Math test score by one level over the previous year.

GRADES 3-5: Families earn $300 per ELA and Math test. If the child meets the learning standard (scores a level 3 or 4) on both tests, families will receive $600.

GRADES 6-8: Families earn $350 per ELA and Math test. If the child meets the learning (scores a level 3 or 4) on both tests, families will receive $700.

What to send in:

- If your child goes to public school: NOTHING! We can get your child’s scores directly from the Department of Education. You do not need to send in a coupon.

- If your child goes to a private, charter, or parochial school:

Special Coupon. Click here for a copy of the Special Coupon. If your child goes to a private, parochial, or charter school, you must fill out the Special Coupon form to get the ELA and Math Rewards.

Rewards may take several months to be delivered due to possible delays at the Department of Education.
Parent Attends Parent-Teacher Meetings CLICK HERE >>

For attending a parent-teacher meeting, you can earn a $25 Reward. In most schools, parent-teacher meetings take place once in the fall (October/November) and once in the spring (March/April). You can earn a $25 Reward twice per school year, up to $50.

What to send in:

- Coupon. Submit the current Parent-Teacher Meeting coupon (either fall or spring).

- Parent-Teacher Meeting Form. Both you and your child’s teacher must completely fill out the Parent-Teacher Meetings form and sign it in order for you to receive your Reward.

When is the next parent-teacher meeting happening?
Contact your child’s school to find out when your next parent-teacher meeting is taking place. Meetings usually happen in the fall (October/November) and spring (March/April).

What if someone else attends my child’s meeting in my place?
If another adult attends your child’s parent-teacher meeting in your place, he/she should know your child well enough to talk with the teacher about how your child is doing in school. He/she can take the Parent-Teacher Meeting Form to the meeting and fill it out with the teacher.

Would you like a free tutor for your child? A program called Supplemental Educational Services (SES) offers tutoring completely free of charge to students who fit the requirements. Most students who attend a school on New York’s list of schools in need of improvement and who are also eligible for free lunch can apply for a free tutor in reading, English Language Arts, or math.

Students meet with tutors outside school—before or after school or on weekends—anywhere that’s convenient for them, usually at their school, the library, or even in their own home or online. Students can start working with a tutor at any time during the school year.

Schools Eligible for SES >>
If you find your child’s school there, the next step is applying for a tutor. Ask the school’s guidance counselor, principal, or any other administrator for all the information you’ll need to apply. If you have any other questions, talk with your community organization.
