It Pays to Pass the Regents
You control your future and you can make it great by passing the Regents exams.
If your family is participating in Opportunity NYC, you have the chance to earn up to $3,000 for passing five qualifying Regents. That’s right, $3,000.
Passing the Regents pays in other ways besides cash. Doin well on the Regents or earning a Regents diploma boost your chance of getting into college or a training program. Regents success also helps you get a better job and earn more money when you start working.
Prove to yourself and everyone else that you can achieve success in school. Start preparing now for the Regents in January and June. Get ready and get paid.

HOW TO GET YOUR REWARDS
Here’s how the Regents Rewards work. For each of five qualifying Regents exam the high school student passes at 65 or above, he/she earns $600.
The exams that qualify are:
1.Mathematics (any ONE of the following)
• MATH A
• Integrated Algebra I
• MATH B
• Geometry
• Algebra II/ Trigonometry
2. Science (any ONE of the following):
• Physical Setting/Chemistry
• Physical Setting/Earth Science
• Living Environment
• Physical Setting/Physics
3. Comprehensive English
4. Global History and Geography
5. U.S. History and Government
Students can earn $3,000 for passing these five Regents.
What to send in:
-If the student goes to public school: NOTHING! We can get the Regents scores directly from the Department of Education.
-If the student goes to a private, charter, or parochial school:
Talk with your community organization about getting a copy of the student’s test scores and filling out the Special Coupon.

IMPORTANT REMINDER:
Students can earn Rewards only for the qualifying Regents listed above. Students in public school receive the Rewards automatically, but the payments can sometimes take a few months to be delivered.
Get Ready for the Regents and Get Ahead
Passing the Regents pays big. Check out these tips to guarantee test success.
-Take sample tests. Get to know the format of the Regents exam inside and out. Taking practice tests—lots of them!—will not only help you review the material, it will save you time on test day. You won’t need to spend time figuring out how the test works. You can get sample tests at your community organization or download them here>>:
-Get a test prep book and study guide. Test prep books cover all the material that might come up on a Regents exam, including some topics you may not have had the chance to study in depth in class. Working through a test prep book is a great way to track studying progress too. Ask your teachers or a librarian for suggestions on the best study guides for you and check them out at the library.
-Study every day. Cramming for the Regents doesn’t work. When you study for a Regents test over a few months, you’ll be ready for all the major concepts and small details that might show up on test day. Set aside a specific time and quiet place to study for the Regents every day. Talk with your teacher or come in to your community organization for more help on setting up a Regents study plan that works for you.
-Get extra help from a tutor. Tutors do a lot more than just help you out when you have a problem with a particular subject. Meeting regularly with a tutor can impact your education in a big way. Plus you might be eligible for a free tutor! Check out the box to the right to learn more.
-Sleep well and eat right. You’ll do better on the Regents—and in school—if you get enough sleep and eat a good breakfast. Get in the habit of taking care of your body as well as your mind for Regents success.

Would you like a free tutor for your child? A program called Supplemental Educational Services (SES) offers tutoring completely free of charge to students who fit the requirements. Most students who attend a school on New York’s list of schools in need of improvement and who are also eligible for free lunch can apply for a free tutor in reading, English Language Arts, or math.
Students meet with tutors outside school—before or after school or on weekends—anywhere that’s convenient for them, usually at their school, the library, or even in their own home or online. Students can start working with a tutor at any time during the school year.
